Navasota Police Department and Navasota ISD Release Statements Regarding Threats Among Students

September 24, 2024 by Willy1550

According to a press release from the Navasota Police Department, “On the evening of Monday, September 23rd, Navasota Police Department was informed of a possible threat between two students that was circulated through social media. NPD School Resource Officers began investigating the threat and identified the suspect as a juvenile high school student.

The student suspected of the threat was detained and charged with terroristic threat. The Navasota Police Department and Navasota Independent School District take the safety of students and faculty seriously. NPD is working with the Grimes County District Attorney and County Attorney Offices to criminally charge anyone making a threat towards a school, student, or school faculty.

NPD has observed an increase in school-related threats recently, a trend that mirrors what is happening nationwide. While we take each one seriously and thoroughly investigate, addressing these situations requires significant time and resources.

NPD and NISD ask that parents talk to their children about the gravity of making threats. Threats come in the form of social media apps, text messages, or even mail. If anyone sees or hears about a potential threat, please continue to report them to a School Resource Officer, the Navasota Police Department at (936) 825-6410, or the Grimes County Crime Stoppers tipline at (936) 873-2000.”
