According to a press release from the Navasota Police Department which reads, “After many hours of investigation, the Navasota Police Department (NPD), with the assistance of the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, has identified the source of the social media posts that suggested a potential threat to a Navasota ISD school. Through numerous interviews and witness statements, officers have determined that two juveniles were responsible for the origin of the posts. Both individuals have been charged with False Alarm or Report, a state jail felony. The investigation will continue, and more individuals may be charged at a later date.
NPD takes these types of incidents very seriously and will continue to investigate and charge anyone who makes threats toward Navasota ISD schools, students, or staff. Chief of Police Mike Mize emphasized this commitment:
“Our primary concern is always the safety of our community, especially our schools. Any threat made against them is unacceptable and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We ask parents to remain vigilant in monitoring their children’s online activity and to report any suspicious behavior or threats immediately.”
NPD will continue to provide an increased presence of officers at school campuses and extracurricular activities through the weekend.
NPD would like to thank the community for their support during this investigation. If you have any additional information related to this case, please contact the Navasota Police Department at 936-825-6410.”
