Some upgrades have been approved for the Navasota Wastewater Treatment plant.
City manager Brad Stafford ran down what was approved on Monday, on the most recent episode of Grilling Stafford.
“So, we have to replace some rotors…they spin and stir the water up, to help us clean it. Also, changing out the clarifiers…the fine screen need to be replaced, there is just a lot of work,” Stafford said.
That plant was built sometime in the early 1990s, according to Stafford, and has not undergone any major maintenance since then.
“So, you have bearings that are going out, metal that has worn out, it is just time to start work on that,” Stafford said.
As a side note, he added the folks who work out there really do not get the credit they deserve.
“I think people do not really understand, the people who work in the water treatment and wastewater departments, they are really like chemists. There is a lot of responsibility there. It is really interesting to see how they keep you safe, your drinking water safe, and also that wastewater and how they keep that safe,” Stafford said.
All of the upgrades to the facility were approved at Monday’s City Council meeting.
