Even though this year’s Navasota City Spring Cleaning was held before Spring officially began, City Street Supervisor Jose Cornea told City Council that it was very successful.
He reported a total of 225 “customers” took part, collecting 13, 30-yard roll-off containers, each one holding from 4 to 5 tons of trash, getting a lot of stuff off the streets. It was so successful, Cornea said he receiving several inquires about having another this Fall.
Cornea went on to say that a total of 440 tires were taken off the streets, as well, with 310 from “customers” and the rest taken from ditches prior to the event. He went on to say there’s still room for another 500 tires or so.
If you have some to donate, Cornea says you can drop them off at the city’s Vehicle Services Center at 520 Malcolm Street. But call City Hall first, 936-825-6475, to make sure someone’s there to help you.
Cornea also reported that residents are so happy with the city’s street repairs they have been passing out homemade treats to the workers, an outcome Councilman Geoff Horn’s very thankful for.
Horn said he had dug ditches in New York City one Summer, and people came from all the houses giving them things. “And I’d hate,” he concluded, “for those Yankees to do better than we do.”
