New Bedias Clinic in the Works

May 13, 2017 by Willy1550

A family nurse practitioner who’s new to Northern Grimes told County Commissioners recently why she’s building a new community clinic in beautiful downtown Bedias.

Dr. Elizabeth Ellis said the recent Brazos Valley Health Assessment from 2016 shows some major health issues Grimes County has to address, and she hopes her new facility will impact the community and make a difference.

She said that diabetes is the number one issue in the county, followed by alzheimers and dementia-related illnesses.  Motor vehicle accidents was also very high on the list as were alcohol-related illness.  Ellis told the Court with education and proper care and management, her new facility will help change that.

That’s why the doctor is currently renovating a building on Highway 90 to the BIS (for Bedias, Iola and Singleton) Community Clinic. And, because nearly 16 percent of Grimes residents are over 65, she said, her clinic will offer Medicare’s Chronic Care Management.

She said her clinic will offer care to everyone, from newborns on up.  She is hoping to have an on-site pharmacy and to offer extended hours a couple of nights a week.

The BIS Community Clinic is set to open September 1st.  We’ll have more details for you later, here on Navasota News.
