New Commandant chosen to lead Texas A&M Corps of Cadets

July 20, 2022 by Andre Perrard

A Texas A and M distinguished military graduate who is completing a nearly 30 year career in the Army has been chosen as the next corps of cadets commandant.

Brigadier General Patrick Michaelis, who served as a cadet, starts October 1st. His hiring comes three months after A and M’s president announced a campaign to grow cadet membership from 2,100 to 3,000.

The cadets have been led on an interim basis since June of 2021 by former Chief of Staff and retired Colonel Byron Stebbins.

Stebbins moved into the interim role when former Commandant and retired General Joe Ramirez was named Vice President of Student Affairs.
