The County of Grimes is one giant step nearer to having a new Road and Bridge Engineer today, as County Commissioners unanimously offerered the job to the only one of the three finalists who actually lives here.
Not only does Harry Walker live with his wife near the County Seat of Anderson, but County Judge Ben Lehman says that the court also liked his wealth of knowledge of the county’s specific road needs.
Lehman admits the quality of all three of the Road and Bridge finalists made it a tough choice. But in the end, he tells Navasota News it was Walker’s understanding of the fiscal realities of dealing with Grimes’ more than 600 miles of mostly bad roads that made him the judge’s ultimate pick.
Walker’s expected to let the county know if he’ll take the job within a week or so, says Lehman. So we could have a new head of Road and Bridge as soon as the first of next month.
