Preliminary approval and plans are in place for a new self-storage facility in Navasota.
At the last Planning and Zoning meeting on December 8th, the plan was submitted by Troy Baker from TRB Squared for 3 acres at 906 Fairway Drive.
“In the first phase, there will be 216 units. There is a hallway in the center of the building. The interior will be climate controlled, and exterior is non-climate controlled. So, there is a 10 by 10, a hallway, a 10 by 15, then exteriors will be 10 by 10,” said Baker.” The back three buildings, the footprint wont change, but whatever the demand is, if people want more climate controlled, we can alter it…just kind of get an idea of what people want.”
In a world where technology is taking over, too, there will be no main office on-site. Rentals will be done online, and other necessary equipment relayed through a kiosk.
Development Service Director Guadalupe Diosdado says it may sound drab, the look will be very sleek.
“They really went above and beyond to try and break up the large building, to make it more aesthetic along Fairway Drive. You already have the airport across the street, with the large hangars…so, a lot of this, I feel they stepped up, and made it a nice look,” said Diosdado. “Although it is a self-storage facility, sometimes they are not the prettiest locations…they really went above and beyond, on this design, to accommodate the ordinance, and our design standards.”
The storage facility will also feature a mix of chain link and wrought iron fencing and security cameras.
P&Z approved the plans, and it awaits approval from city council in 2023.
