New signage stating engine brake ban to cost Navasota around $4,000

April 13, 2021 by Willy1550

Recently approved by Navasota City Council was an ordinance to prohibit the use of Engine Brakes in the city limits. But, it will not be the cheapest thing to change.

Assistant city manager and police chief Shawn Myatt talked about the signage costs during the most recent city council meeting.

“We are looking at roughly around $4,000. That is for ten signs. Ten may be too many, but I am figuring we are wanting to cover any entrance coming into the city,” said Myatt.

Myatt added that he was considering signage posted on, or near, Spur 515 and the Industrial Park.

As for what you can expect to see on these signs?

“36×48 custom sign, which will say ‘no engine brake by city ordinance.’ Then, they have this certain breakaway stand it has to be on….all of that is included in the price,” said Myatt.

He noted that his staff have been working on a way to pay for it during this budget cycle.
