NHS Sends “28 to History State”

March 10, 2018 by Willy1550

Navasota High School History Teacher Heather Brite is on Cloud 9 today, after her NHS students swept every category at the Star of the Republic Museum’s recent Regional History Fair.

An amazing 28 local students will get to move on.  In fact, Bright laughs that “28 to State” is the hashtag

That’s because every first and second place winner at Regionals gets to go to Austin this April to compete at the State History Fair at U.T. Austin.

Brite says they did five different categories:  Individual and Group Documentary, Historical Papers, Group Performance, Individual and Group Website and Exhibit.

This year’s theme is “Conflict and Compromise,” Brite reports, with a total of 205 students from Grimes, Brazos and Washington Counties presenting 111 projects.  Among Grimes’ winners:  Amber Allen, Freddie Fuentes,  Johnnie Dominguez, Ian Cambell, Jose Cornilla, Evan Diaz and Gail Evans, along with Mandy Garcia.

Brite says the secret of producing successful students is simple:  hard work, dedication, and having spent her past four years here learning the tricks of the recently retired Kathy Day.
