After some time, Navasota ISD’s athletic facilities are gong to be getting an upgrade. At a recent NISD school board meeting last week, the board decided on moving forward with improvements to the facilities.
Superintendent Dr. Stu Musik says the district did an assessment recently and broke down broke the list down into wants, needs and wishes. The needs broke down to a new floor for the high school gym, a new tennis court and lights, and a new track plus football turf at Rattler Stadium, all of which are past their life expectancy. But Musik says, a few “wishes” items were moved to the “needs” category.
He says new lights for baseball and softball were added to the “needs” list as well as a new video board and sound system for Rattler Stadium.
In total, repairing all things on the list, which included turf for the baseball and softball fields among other things, the district would be looking at around $4.335 million. But Dr. Musik says NISD can contribute around $2 million of it, thanks to investment earnings from the 2017 Bond and the districts Fund balance.
The remaining amount of money left the district would owe would go out for financing via a tax note proposal. The board unanimously approved moving forward with the athletic facility upgrades.
