A North Zulch man who managed to escape custody after a traffic stop two weeks ago is in the Brazos County jail.
That happened on May10th, around 5pm, on State Highway 21 at Marino Road. An officer observed a car behind him, which did not want to stop near him at a red light. A deputy noticed the man was staring ahead, with a tight grip on the wheel.
Upon stopping him, the arrest report says the man was breathing heavily and visibly shaking. He had also just lit a fresh cigarette, which officers believed meant he was masking the odor of narcotics. The officer spotted a small plastic baggie, and asked the man to exit the vehicle.
The man walked by the patrol car, and was instructed to return to the front, while the officer searched his vehicle. The man is then seen on surveillance footage dropping a pill, suspected as MDMA. The man was then placed under arrest, at which point, he attempted running, and the two tussled to the ground. The man eventually got away while the officer was radioing for backup.
It was noted in the report that the officer received injuries to his elbow and knee, which hindered him in apprehending the suspect, who eventually returned to his vehicle and drove away. The report also says the officer was able to go back and review body camera footage, which helped in the identification of his dropping of the pill.
The man was arrested on Wednesday, May 19th, and identified as 21 year old Dustin Michael Griffin of North Zulch.
He was charged with Evading Arrest, Tampering with Evidence, and Resisting Arrest, and remains in the Brazos County jail on bonds totaling $20,000.
