December 9, 2019 by Willy1550

An accident in Madison County claimed the life of a volunteer firefighter on early Sunday morning.

Texas DPS says that the driver of an SUV left the road and hit a tree near midnight on Sunday. The crash happened on FM 1372 near North Zulch. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver killed was identified as 44 year old Amber Alewine of North Zulch. She was a secretary and volunteer firefighter for several years with the North Zulch VFD.

Financial assistance is needed for the funeral and burial expenses. Anyone interested in helping out can contact the chief at (936) 661-5243.

It is the second time in the last two months a firefighter from Madison County has been killed. In October, 36 year old Adrian Guevara of the Madisonville VFD died in a single vehicle crash in Walker County

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
