Although the weather didn’t cooperate, event organizer Doris Sauls says everyone who turned out for the recent walk through Navasota’s soon-to-become Grace Park had a great time.
Sauls said neighbors came out, as did members of City Council, and Commissioner Barbara Walker. Mid South Synergy was also represented, and there were a lot of local kids walking. Sauls believes the wind and fear of bad weather kept lots of folks away who otherwise would have taken part. She admits she was expecting about a hundred, or about 20 teams, and only around three dozen (8 teams) showed up, seriously affecting the money raised.
But even with about a third of her expected participants actually taking part, Sauls still thinks they can raise the $300,000 this year they’ll need to actually begin construction, saying when she looks at a glass, she sees it half-full and not half-empty.
Sauls tells Navasota News, she feels other avenues can also be used to supplement park construction monies, like local businesses, a half-dozen pending grants and other local activities at the park, itself.
She says there’s a website for the project in the works, and in the meantime you can keep up at Grace Park Community-Built Project on Facebook.
