Grimes County may shortly be the home of yet another city. but although the County Judge’s approval of Plantersville area residents’ petition to incorporate places it on the ballot this coming spring, Ben Lehman says he really had little discretion in the matter.
He said is role is only to verify that the petition was done in accordance with the law, and that the information therein is valid.
Lehman details the legal specifics for Navasota News. The area needs to be less than two square miles and there must be at least 50 signatures from valid residents and landowners in the area.
One of the critizisms of this petition is that the proposed city limits wound-up looking less like a city and more like a spider. And, the judge does admit it’s difficult to get 50 people living within less than two square miles in an area as rural as Plantersville.
He says there are no statutory limitations on what a city can look like; like a square, circle, star. So while the shape is is not an issue, he admits it is odd-looking.
