Plantersville Election Reset

July 15, 2017 by Willy1550

Grimes County’s 6th incorporated city’ll have to wait another four months to get started with city business, as Grimes County Commissioners agreed with the county election administrator this week that the election for Plantersville’s first mayor, five aldermen and city marshal should be rescheduled for November 7th.

That’s a Uniform Election Day, Rebecca Duff explained to the court.  The earlier election date of July 15th wasn’t, she said.  And that was part of the problem that led her to a miscalculation that kept some people who wanted to run from being able to sign up, caused the election to be cancelled.

Precinct Four Commissioner Gary Husfeld asked her if it could possibly be set earlier. She replied that it could be set in September, but it would shorten the time that people would have to sign up to run greatly.

And while some of the hopeful bureaucrats present agreed to November, others argued for getting the town up and running as soon as possible.

But in the end, the court agreed with County Attorney Jon C. Fultz that everyone in the county shouldn’t have to pay for yet another special election

So with the Plantersville Election now officially rescheduled to November 7th, anyone wishing to run for office there has until September 6th to sign up with the voter registrar’s office.
