According to a press release from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Department, “On Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., a Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a silver Toyota RAV 4 for an expired registration at CR 304 and SH 249 in Plantersville.
After refusing to exit the vehicle, the driver began to evade police. The driver entered SH 249 exceeding speeds of 100 mph and passing multiple vehicles in no passing zones.
As the driver entered Montgomery County, he led multiple agencies in a high-speed pursuit, exceeding speeds of 120 mph.
The driver entered Harris County and struck two vehicles, where at least one was occupied. Multiple attempts were made to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.
As the pursuit continued, two State Troopers attempted to conduct a pit maneuver on the vehicle, in which they successfully stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Louetta Road and Telge Road.
The driver exited the vehicle on the passenger side’s door and began to evade on foot but was tazed. He continued to resist arrest until he was taken into custody pending additional charges.
The driver was identified as James Leo Harvey, a Plantersville resident.
Harvey was booked into the Grimes County Jail for Evading Arrest Detention with a Motor Vehicle, a Third Degree Felony.
