Possessing Pot Means Beaumont’s Pistol Packing Pastor Will Surrender His CHL

August 21, 2014 by Archive

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) _ A Beaumont preacher known as the “Pistol Packing Pastor” will have to surrender his concealed handgun licenses after taking a plea deal on a marijuana charge.

The Beaumont Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/1z4vCTU ) James Arthur McAbee pleaded no contest Wednesday to one count of marijuana possession. He was sentenced to two years deferred probation and a $2,000 fine. He will also surrender his concealed handgun licenses from Texas, Arizona and Florida.

The state dismissed an unlawful carrying of a weapon charge as part of the plea agreement.

McAbee is the pastor of Lighthouse Worship Center and is a state-licensed concealed handgun instructor. He held two men at gunpoint who tried to rob his church in 2011.

Authorities say they found marijuana and a loaded handgun in his vehicle in April.
