Possible arson leads to Sheriff’s Office investigation

August 27, 2018 by Andre Perrard

Grimes County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving a case of possible arson. Near Iola, a series of grass fires, believed to be intentionally set off county road 110, has opened a Sheriff’s Office investigation. Investigator Kendale Pittman explained that on August 23rd, Iola volunteer fire fighters responded to and extinguished two grass fires off the road. But, as Pittman says, and investigation by the Sheriff’s Office concluded that these might not have been an accident.

“It was believed these fires were intentionally set, due to being within an equal distance apart and of the same size upon arrival by first responders,” said Pittman.

Anyone with any tips or witness to the fires being set are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 936-873-2000. Any tips submitted can remain anonymous.
