Prison sentences handed down to two Grimes County men, as in-person trials resume

June 28, 2021 by Willy1550

Two Grimes County men received prison sentences last week, as trials resume this summer.

The Grimes County District Attorney’s Officer says that in person dockets resumes in both the 12th and 506th District Courts, and have seen dozens of guilty please.

One one case, 19 year old Dekemius Jessie received a 15 year sentence for his role in a 2020 Navasota apartment complex’s robbery. The DA says Jessie was the person with the handgun, demanding money. Three others from that crime have since been sentenced.

38 year old Justin Smith was another case, who was sentenced for his 6th DWI arrest.

Smith was arrested near Navasota for driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance in September 2019. A blood test revealed numerous drugs in Smith’s system at the time of arrest.

Due to his prior DWI convictions, Smith was labeled a habitual offender, and sentenced to 20 years.

In person trials resume next week.
