Christmas for those whose job it is to protect and serve Navasota daily was made exceptionally jolly this year, thanks to the incredible generosity of Grimes County Crimestoppers.
After asking the group for assistance in acquiring kevlar helmets and body armor for his local cop shop, NPD Chief Justin Leeth says Crimestoppers responded by matching the total amount they had originally set aside.
At the rate the department had been going before Crimestoppers stepped up, Chief Leeth admits it would have taken about five to six years to outfit all of his officers.
And while it still won’t take care of everyone yet, he continues, this unexpected donation of level-four armor suddenly gets the department about one-third of the way to achieving its goal.
Leeth says he hopes Navasota will never find itself in a situation that will require his officers to use this new body armor, quickly adding that it’s good to know it’s there, just in case those who protect and serve our city ever need an additional level of protection themselves.
