Apparently Navasota’s very first Fourth Friday event was very successful, as Mayor, and Downtown Business Owner Bert Miller reported to City Council.
He said it was incredible, with huge turnouts of folks who hung around a lot longer than he would have expected, and he was pleased.
Mayor Pro-Tem Grant Holt said he was equally impressed, having talked with three businesses who told him the same thing, record numbers of people ALL DAY Friday and then into the night, and then that continued Saturday.
Council took time to single-out Gallery Downtown Owner Pattie Pederson for persuading more than two dozen businesses to get onboard and stay open late for the experiment.
The second Fourth Friday will be December 22nd, Pederson reminds, perfectly timed for last-minute shopping. And even though the Guiness World Record is more than thirteen hundred, she says wants to add to the excitement with an Ugly Sweater Competition.
The American record, she reports, is only 600 people, and she thought “Surely we could get 600 people in Downtown Navasota in an Ugly Sweater.
Pederson tells Navasota News she’s also trying to get KBTX here to record the event. So grab your ugliest sweater and we’ll see you here in Downtown Navasota the Fourth Friday of this month.
