Now that rains have died down just a bit, the county road and bridge department is finally getting caught up on things. County Road and Bridge Engineer Harry Walker gave an update on two big things in his department at Wednesday’s meeting of Commissioner’s Court.
The first, and probably most important, was the update on the County Road 168 bridge replacement project. Walker says the project should be completed and, hopefully, reopened by this week.
Walker also touched on the status of their grant applications for Hurricane Harvey, which he says they have had to wrestle with quite a bit.
“That whole program has been a little bit backwards. They notified us that they gave us this money, then said to submit an application for what you want to do. Whereas normally, you apply and they determine what they will give you after the fact. So, it has been a bit topsy-turvy, but we are working through it,” Walker said.
Walker mentioned they filed for an extension on the Harvey grant, and have had their deadline extended to June 30th.
