The impacts of Winter Storm Uri have been felt well into today, and will be until the end of the week, for Grimes County and the entire Brazos Valley.
As of now, numerous people in Grimes County are without power. The latest numbers on the power outage map for Entergy say 9 of their customers are still affected in the county. Mid South’s power outage map currently says they currently have 320 customers out of power. Some power is coming back, but stay aware, as you could lose it again potentially.
As a note, the Progressive Outreach Center in Navasota is opening its doors for anyone out of heat and owner still. It is open free of charge, they just ask that you bring pillows and blankets. The number to call for that is 936-825-4846.
Additional outages are also being reported around the county, and it has led to another boil water notice, issued by the Anderson Water Company. The newest boil water notice includes Anderson, Roans Prairie, Richards, and Shiro. Outside the county, Brenham and Madisonville also have boil water notices in effect until further notice.
Navasota remains under a boil water notice as well, not from ice, but from the large water main break last week. The city says the bacterial samples they took must ass tests, but submitting the samples has been hampered due to weather. The city will notify residents as soon as the notice is lifted.
The city of Navasota has also declared a state of local disaster due to the winter weather, as announced by Mayor Bert Miller today. That will take place the next 7 days. The City reminds folks too that they will NOT be shutting water off, and poor water pressure is due to leaks around town, which they are trying to rectify.
If you are in need of water, C-Force bottling has cases at their headquarters. In Navasota, stores are open for limited hours today. Turner Pierce and Fultz is open for a few hours, along with propane being available at Navasota LP Gas Company, if needed.
Anyone in need, or just wanting a hot meal can head to KoKo’s Star of Texas in Anderson, where they are offering free chicken and rice soup today and tomorrow, from 11 am until 5 pm. They just ask that you bring your own containers, if able. For more on that, you can call 281-736-0154.
ERCOT is still reporting they will be performing rolling blackouts to not overwhelm the currently overloaded power grid. If you have power, you could still lose it sometime in the next 24 to 48 hours, so stay cautious.
Roads remain slick around the county as well. There are no closures, but the roads remain a hazard.
