Tis’ the season to be scary and before your kids excitedly gather loads of candy Halloween night, Ag Extension’s Tanner Williams has some tips to keep both you and them safe.
Be especially alert for kids darting out from between parked cars or behind bushes, Williams continues. They are excited and might not be paying attention.
Parents should go with their kids this trick or treat season and should always look both ways before crossing the street, use sidewalks whenever possible or walk on the left side of the road facing traffic.
He goes on to say whether you are wearing a costume or not, be visible. Use a flashlight and wear retro-reflective strips or patches so drivers can see you. And be cautious of what you do wear over your head as some may give you blind spots and make it harder to hear.
If you intend to drink this Halloween, designate a driver. As police officials say, they’ll have some extra officers patrolling the streets that night, to keep things safe.
