SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) _ A Central Texas school board has ordered a trustee to attended professional conduct training after parents and teachers said he used his position to get his daughter onto a cheerleading team.
The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees voted Monday to make Paul Mayhew attend training courses in governance and professional standards. The trustees did not publicly disclose what Mayhew did wrong.
Mayhew says his daughter was told in April she didn’t score high enough to make her high school’s team. Mayhew says he obtained records showing she did make the cut and discussed them with the superintendent. Mayhew’s daughter and four others were then allowed onto the team.
Mayhew’s attorney tells the Austin American-Statesman that his client might appeal the decision.
