The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office as well as other local and area law enforcement agencies around the state and nation have been seeing a rise in scam tactics that plague our citizens.
This, according to a Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post from Sheriff Don Sowell that goes on to say,
“I want to with sincerity plead and remind our citizens to PLEASE do not engage in a conversation with these callers either on the phone personally or by text messaging.
They can be very convincing and intimidating using methods that may impersonate a law enforcement agency claiming you owe fines or numerous other methods for you to send money to avoid an arrest.
Some claim to be the IRS, FBI or local officers, toll road authorities wanting payment for tolls and just so many other styles of intimidation.
PLEASE don’t talk or engage with them, YOU control this by ending the conversation. Should they persist DON’T respond, and if you INSIST on talking to them, give them my name, title and cell phone number (936-825-5726) and tell them you have reported this to me and I am anxiously awaiting their phone call.
NOTE, some citizens have done this before at my urging and I never get a call from the “do bad”. We have even had these scammers claim to be from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office with fake names etc.
Law enforcement agencies all over have had this happen in their jurisdictions and they as well ask their citizens to not respond to these tactics.”
Willy 98.7’s Julie Peters, has received 3 of these types of calls since the beginning of August.
