Regardless how it looks on the outside, Navasota’s Miller’s Insurance Agency is still open for business, following an unexpected Christmas present (?) delivered during the final hour of Christmas Eve.
Navasota Police Chief Justin Leeth says officers responding to a report of a single-vehicle accident in the 200 block of East Washington Ave, discovered a vehicle that had struck the Miller’s Insurance Agency. The driver had subsequently fled on foot and was no longer onscene.
But despite that, Leeth says his officers have a very good idea who they’re looking for, as witnesses to the accident indicated the driver was 20-year-old Louie Calderon of Navasota, had made an improper turn from LaSalle onto Washington, striking the building and doing pretty extensive damage.
And, although damage to the agency is extensive, there have been no serious injuries reported. The investigation into the specifics of the accident is still ongoing, and Chief Leeth says that based on what they’ve discovered so far, a warrant has been issued for Calderon’s arrest on two charges: Duty Upon Striking a Highway Fixture and Evading Arrest or Detention. Both are misdemeanors, Chief adds, punishable by fines and jail time.
Meanwhile business continues as usual at the Miller’s Agency itself, or as usual as it can be with a huge piece of tarp-covered wood where the front window used to be. The insurance adjuster has taken a look at the damage, but as of yet there is no estimate as of either how much it will cost to fix it, or how long it’ll take.
But the folks working in the office would understantably like to get the heater up and running as soon as possible.
