The second of three Iola residents charged with stealing from the Iola Volunteer Fire Department has pled guilty.
Wanda Sword, was placed on 10 years deferred probation and ordered to pay restitution of which $5000 was paid up front.
Grimes county D.A. Tuck McLane tells Navasota News, Samantha Sword Kimich was the first to plead guilty and agreed to testify against both Earl and Wanda Sword. In return, she was placed on 10 years deferred probation and ordered to pay restitution.
Now the only defendant left is former fire chief Earl Sword, thought McLane feels another plea deal is likely.
McLane alleges that over a two-year period, the trio stole around $40,000, most of which is believed to have gone to the ex-chief.
Between Wanda sword and Kimich, the D.A. reports, the Iola VFD will see $25,000 in restitutions. As of yet, he continues, $10,000 has been paid.
Currently, Earl Sword remains charged with a 2nd degree felony which could lead up to 20 years in prison and $10,000s in fines. And Navasota News will let you know if and or when that changes.
