Several Several Emergency Service Departments Respond To Possible Heat-Related Illness For Utility Worker

June 16, 2023 by Willy1550

At approximately 4:39PM on Thursday afternoon, the Navasota Fire Department was dispatched to 7625 Highway 6 North, Mid-South Synergy, for a report of a person approximately 300 feet high on the communications tower with a possible heat related illness.

The Navasota Fire Department responded and requested Bryan Fire Department Technical Rescue team for assistance. Both Navasota Fire and Police arrived on scene and spoke to the tower crew leader on the ground who said two of his team members were up on a communications tower and that one of them was in and out of consciousness.

A Navasota Fire rescuer ascended the tower to find the two crew members and one was unconscious. Bryan Fire Department arrived on scene and assumed rescue operations.

The crew member was lowered to the ground using a ropes system and was transferred to St. Joseph EMS for treatment at 7:28PM. The member was then transported by Air Med 12 to a local hospital.

The other crew member descended the tower on his own power, uninjured. Responding agencies included the Navasota Fire Department,  Navasota Police Department, Bryan Fire Department, Bryan Fire Marshal’s Office (Drone Operations), St. Joseph EMS and PHI Air Med 12.
