Sexual Assault Resource Center receives anonymous $50,000 donation to hire counselor

December 16, 2020 by Andre Perrard

The Sexual Assault Resource Center in the Brazos Valley has received a very generous gift from an anonymous donor.

According to the organization, they received $50,000 to hire a counselor that will work with teens. SARC has more than 50 sexual assault survivors on a waiting list, they say. Since the start of 2020, SARC has served 359 people, and services thousands of individual counseling sessions online during the pandemic.

All that is left now, according to SARC, is another $14,000 in donations to make that counselor a full-time employee.

SARC helps victims, regardless of whether or not they choose to report a crime to law enforcement. Victims can obtain a private exam from a forensic nurse through SARC, and in 2020, they helped more than 100 survivors pay expenses and obtain free legal help with protection orders.

Donations can be mailed directly to SARC, PO Box 3082 Bryan, Texas, 77805, or, you can donate online through their website, sarcbv.org.

SARC also has a 24/7 crisis hotline available at 979-731-1000.
