Sheriff’s Office getting a new patrol vehicle with seized asset

March 8, 2019 by Andre Perrard

The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office will be getting a new patrol vehicle soon. At Wednesday’s meeting of Commissioner’s Court, Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Todd Greene explained from where the assets for that vehicle are coming.

“We were awarded…we recently seized a 2016 GMC Denali from the Middlelands Festival Concert…since then, it has been in court hearings. And we recently, the people at the District Attorney’s office was able to get that vehicle awarded to us,” said Greene.

The vehicle seized will be traded in for the new patrol vehicle. Greene says the trade in will cover the cost of the new vehicle and there will be some surplus left over, which will go to the DA’s Office. Green explained what the plan is between the two offices, and what the DA’s plans are with the left over money.

“I believe they are looking at purchasing some cellphone software that allows investigators and us to get into our phones and pull up information. It is my understanding that is what they are going to buy, I am not quite exactly sure. So, I do not want to put it totally on record that is what they are using the funds for,” said Greene.

The Commissioners unanimously approved the plan. Greene mentioned the department is looking into buying a new Ford SUV as the new patrol vehicle.
