A shooting at the Texas Renaissance Festival campgrounds early Sunday morning killed a 19 year old woman.
According to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 2:40 am Sunday to Row 5 of the campgrounds for a disturbance. Upon arriving, they found a woman shot once in the stomach. She was flown to a Bryan hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
She was identified as 19 year old Isabella Cimetta of Spring.
According to a probable cause statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, one man pointed a gun at another man, who was arguing with Cimetta. When the unarmed man attempted to disarm the man with the weapon, the gun discharged, and hit Cimetta in the stomach.
The man with the gun fled, and was found a short time later in a vehicle with the gun. He was arrested, and identified as 22 year old Sean Campbell of Spring. He has since been booked booked into the Grimes County Jail on two charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The Sheriff’s Office says Cimetta and Campbell knew each other, and traveled to the festival together with friends.
Authorities said this was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public. The festival remained open to the public on Sunday.
No one else was injured.
