A local state senator disagrees with making coronavirus vaccinations mandatory.
State senator Charles Schwertner, who represents Grimes County and is an orthopedic doctor and pharmacist, says he especially disagrees making them mandatory for children.
“We all know the COVID vaccines were manufactured relatively quickly. We do not know the long-term studies of their long-term potential and side effects,” Schwertner said recently on WTAW’s the Informaniacs.
One of his main goals, he says, is protecting the rights of individuals.
“I am constantly pushing back against people that want to have government make people do something. It is a challenge. People always think ‘hey, we just get the government to do this, it is going to be better,’ and that is not always the case,” Schwertner remarked.
He says if pandemic vaccinations become mandatory, that there should also be exemptions.
