A young Navasota man is residing in the Grimes County Jail today on a $23,000 bond, after Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call Monday November 9th from a woman reporting that an hispanic man claiming to be a police officer stole her car at highway 105 and fm 1774.
While deputies were on route to the scene, Grimes County Sheriff’s Captain Blake Jarvis tells Navasota News, they were given another call about a similar situation unfolding at a nearby store on 105.
Jarvis reports that when the officers arrived, they found 25-year-old Joe Rodriguez working his way through the air ducts of the store in an apparent escape attempt.
There had also been a few more car thefts that morning starting in Baytown, Jarvis adds, and that Rodriguez matches the general description of the man Baytown PD were looking for.
Jarvis says most of the vehicles have been returned to their rightful owners.
Rodreguez is currently charged with two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two counts of impersonating a public servant. If convicted, he could be facing nearly a quarter century behind bars in addition to possibly $20,000 in fines.
