The Texas Agrilife Extension promises you’ll have a stronger family if you can convince them to spend two hours at the Navasota Center for eight Thursday evenings.
Strenthening Families of the Brazos Valley’s Chastdy Love says they seek to bring parents and kids together and helping them deal with day-to-day things, like complimenting each other, communication, consequences, problem solving and anger management skills.
And while Love admits these free classes are new, she says it’s a different age now, because it often takes two parents working outside of the household to break even and technology takes away from a lot of things families used to do because people are buried in their cellphones or Ipads or laptops.
The literature calls it a Parents Education Series, but Love says it’s really a Family Education Series, because the kids are an integral part.
She says the family starts by eating together and have conversations about that week’s events and then the little kids will go to their area for childcare and the older kids can stay and we’ll start our lessons and have a good time.
That’s from 6 to 8 Thursday evenings, beginning April 6th at the Navasota Center. Meals and childcare are free, and each adult receives a $25 gift card for attending.
