A&M System Regent Leading Governor Perry’s Indictment Defense Team

August 18, 2014 by Archive

Tony Buzbee was appointed by Governor Perry last year to the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Attorneys for Texas Gov. Rick Perry say they don’t know when he will be booked on abuse of power charges _ but that it won’t happen in secret.

Houston-based defense Tony Buzbee said Monday that he will head Perry’s high-powered legal team. The Republican and longest-serving governor in Texas history has been indicted on two felony counts.

Buzbee said the governor is “going to let everyone know” when he will be booked, fingerprinted and have his mug shot taken. Perry’s attorneys and a special prosecutor are still working that out.

Buzbee also dismissed the case as “nothing more than banana republic politics.”

Perry was indicted Friday on charges of coercion and official oppression for publicly promising to veto $7.5 million for the state public integrity unit run.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A judge won’t issue an arrest warrant for Texas Governor Rick Perry. That means Perry can continue traveling around the country as he considers whether to run for president in 2016 despite having been indicted on two felony counts. He’s accused of abusing his power when he vetoed millions for state prosecutors investigating public corruption.
