Once again, the County of Grimes has answered the call. This time, it was a call from three local churches to help restock the Christian Community Service Center’s Food Pantry.
And the pantry’s volunteer coordinator is extremely grateful for about 900 pounds of food and around $4,000 in contributions donated in an extremely short time-frame of 9 in the morning til 2 in the afternoon at the Navasota Walmart.
In the pre-event publicity, Pat Gaston had included a list of the items the that are food pantry’s current greatest need. And she says the contributions matched her needs wonderfully.
Event Coordinator Marla Carroll says Walmart went so far as to put some of the needed items at the checkout stands, and ask customers to purchase them for the drive.
And that’s a good thing too, Gaston says, because the need continues to grow, saying from 15 to 35 new families sign-up with the pantry each month.
Navasota’s Christian Community Services Food Pantry is open from 9 to Noon, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 936-825-7454.
