Talks of Navasota Super Walmart in holding pattern

July 6, 2021 by Willy1550

For about half a decade, rumors of a Super Walmart have swirled in Navasota. So, what is the update on it?

City Manager Brad Stafford says…there is not much new to discuss.

“We try to communicate with them on a regular basis, it is very difficult to communicate with them. We make phone calls, send emails, we have consultants that help us talk to them, we do not get very many answers from them when it comes to ‘are you going to build? when are you going to build?’ They do not really tell you,” Stafford said.

“We ask ‘hey, would you sell?’ They say ‘no.’ For more than five years, we have had conversations with Walmart,” Stafford said.

That was from a questions asked on the most recent Grilling Stafford episode. He was also asked if the city has any kind of tax agreement with Walmart.

“No, we never entered any agreement with Walmart. They came on their own accord, purchased the land, did not talk to us before they purchased it. We did not make any type of agreement with them, financially, or of any other sort,” said Stafford.

For any questions, contact the city at 936-825-6475.
