The 8th annual Iola VFD cookoff is coming up next weekend, March 12th and 13th. Once again, they will be having their IBCA Sanctioned cookoff, their usual live and silent auctions, and much more.
All of it gets started Friday night with the cookoff, crawfish boil, and is capped off with live music by Jarrod Sterrett and Jarrett Zoch.
“Jarrod [Sterrett] really supports our fire department, because there are members of his family that are members of other volunteer fire departments. So, he understands the struggle of keeping the money coming, and what it takes to…keep the station going,” said Betty Moore, and organizer of the event.
Then for Saturday, more fun begins, with the actual tasting of the competition meats.
“Going to start with beans, then we will have open meat, then chicken, ribs and brisket,” said Moore. “And, we are looking for taste judges.”
If you are interested in judging, email iolavfdcookoff@hotmail.com.
They will also be selling fish plates that Saturday afternoon. The event is not just for the cookoff, there is fun out there for the whole family.
“We are having a kid’s zone. There will be a jump house, so there are things for them to do. We will have vendors, and out there will be Kona Ice,” said Moore.
