As summer months go on, and travelers hit the roads for vacation, accidents tend to spike a bit.
Texas DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard, speaking on Let’s Talk Traffic on our station on Thursday, reminded folks to be safe when you head out.
“1,980 is where we are sitting as a state for fatalities this year. So, we want to remind folks, be mindful of your speed, do not drink and drive…be mindful of distractions,” said Woodard.
He added that last week was National Tire Safety week, and said he believes that is one of the most single important objects on the vehicle to check.
“Be mindful of your tires. We are spreading a campaign…do a once over of your vehicle. Did you know, anytime a truck driver gets in a vehicle, they do a pre trip,” said Woodard.
“Pre-trip means this: you go around the vehicle, or trailer, and make sure all safety functions are in place, and it is safe to go down the road. Extend that to your own personal vehicle, I do it with my patrol car.”
Woodard noted that the number one safety violation in the state is tire violations.
