Texas A&M takes stand against sexual assault

August 22, 2018 by Willy1550

Texas A&M university and the A&M system have announced new policies addressing student sexual assault and misconduct cases.

Texas A&M president Michael Young announced 11 actions. That includes hiring more counselors and assigning one case manager to each student who files a complaint.

“Partially, to minimize the amount of times one has to relive this experience,” Young said.

Vice president for student affairs Daniel Pugh says offenders face a new range of consequences. They range from a one year suspension to full expulsion from the university.

A&M is targeting sexual harassment, domestic abuse and violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, dating abuse and violence, non-consensual sexual contact, and sexual abuse.

Provost Carol Fierke says administrator’s work is not done.

“We are also going to launch a faculty-sanctioned task force to try to make an employee sanctioned model similar to what we have with the student-sanctioned model,” Fierke said.

All the information presented by university administrators, including an internal review and a consultant’s review, is online at our sister station in College Station, wtaw.com.
