Three bridges in Grimes included in next phase of TXDOT bridge replacement

July 11, 2019 by Willy1550

The next round of TXDOT’s bridge replacement program is starting up soon, and a few bridges in the county are included in that next phase. County road and bridge engineer Harry Walker named the bridges TXDOT has in their sights in the next few years at this week’s Commissioner’s Court meeting.

“TXDOT has identified three bridges in the county for replacement in the future. They are on a five year cycle, so these projects are set for 2023. They are County Road 201 at Mill Creek, County Road 215 at Bums Creek and County Road 412 at Grassy Creek,” Walker said.

Even though they are slated for 2023, Walker says one of them could get moved up a lot sooner than that.

“I have had some discussions with TXDOT, and there is a possibility that the 201 bridge may get moved up to 2021,” said Walker.

The program usually calls for a 10 percent participation financially from counties. However, TXDOT has waived it and Walker explained why.

“Rather than us writing a check to TXDOT for our ten percent, they allow us to replace other, smaller bridges that are in bad shape,” Walker stated.

Walker says the bridges the county will be responsible for replacing in lieu of that 10 percent participation are on County Road 323 at Beason Creek, County Road 204 at Small Creek and County Road 112 at one of the tributaries of Bedias Creek.
