All three Grimes County football teams make playoffs

November 12, 2018 by Andre Perrard

It is playoff time in Texas folks. The brackets are officially set and every team from Grimes County is in the big dance. This is the first time since 2015 that every team from the county is in the playoffs.

The Navasota Rattlers, finished the regular season at 5-5 overall and due to a Wheatley loss on Friday, won the district title outright. The Rattlers will draw former district foe Little Cypress-Mauriceville in the first round of the playoffs on Friday night. The Bears ended the season 4-6 and are from Orange, Texas. The Rattlers and Bears are going to kickoff the 4A bi-district playoffs from Huffman on Friday night at 7 pm. Broadcast for the playoffs will be on Willy 1550 and 98.7 FM.

The 6-3 Anderson-Shiro Owls are in the playoffs for the first time since 2015, even following a 47-0 loss on Friday night to Newton. The Owls had lost 20 straight from 2016 to the beginning of this year. But the Owls are going dancing. Their first dance partner will be with Dangerfield, who finished the year also at 6-3. Anderson-Shiro and Dangerfield are going to kickoff their 3A bi-district playoff game in Athens at 7:30 pm Friday night.

The Iola Bulldogs also made their way into the playoffs following a 49-0 thumping of Bartlett on Friday ngiht. This will be the Bulldogs 7th straight playoff appearance and they finish the year 4-4 overall. Iola will draw Flatonia in 2A bi-district playoffs, another Bulldog team that finished with a .500 record at 5-5. The pair of Bulldogs will kickoff from Rockdale at 7 pm Friday night.

Good luck to all the Grimes County teams!
