Todd Mission VFD elects first female Fire Chief in Grimes County history

April 23, 2019 by Willy1550

For the first time in the history of Grimes County, there is a female fire chief.

Last week, Cassandra Malone at the Todd Mission Volunteer Fire Department was elected as the Fire Chief of the department, the first honor of the sort for any female in the 173 year history of the county.

Malone says a lot of the thanks is due to her co-workers.

“It is a very humbling experience. I would not be where I am today without the crew at the Todd Mission Fire Department…it is very humbling to be elected by my peers to lead them, and to lead this department into the future,” Malone said.

Malone says too that she hopes to be an inspiration to girls all over, not just in the county.

“I am hoping this will be an inspiration to other women, not just in our county, but everywhere that you can do the job and that you can be good at it. You have to work very hard at it, but there are people there who will guide you and lead you. I have had a bunch of great role models that have gave me inspiration and led me to this point,” said Malone. “We are hoping at Todd Mission to inspire other women around the world to get in there and find their spot int he fire service.”

Malone has been a firefighter for seven years and has spent the entirety of her career in Todd Mission.
