A Bryan man on trial this week for the aggravated kidnapping and strangulation of his estranged girlfriend decided to accept a plea agreement.

36 year old Lance Gentry was sentenced to 25 years for the kidnapping.

Prosecutors say punishment ranged from life in prison to probation because it was Gentry’s first conviction.

The plea came almost a year to the day of the incident near Smetana.

The victim told sheriff’s investigators Gentry was supposed to drive her to her mother’s residence.

Instead, Gentry took her to property his family owned, threatened her with a knife, and said he was going to kill then bury her on that land.

Following a scuffle where the woman was choked, she was able to get away from Gentry and drive off in his truck to the Smetana grocery.

Gentry was also convicted of strangulation, and the 10 year maximum sentence will be served at the same time as the kidnapping.
