Troubled Inmate Scares Jailers

August 17, 2015 by Willy1550

Grimes County Jailers had quite a scare earlier this month, after they discovered a Navasota inmate had apparently attempted suicide.

Chief Deputy Todd Green tells Navasota News, when it appeared that 47-year-old Cassandra Burks had tried to strangle herself with the TV power cord, Jailer Overton Day responded by cutting it away, then called for EMS after finding she still had a slight pulse.

Since the incident, Deputy Green reports Burks has admitted the suicide attempt, adding that, although she had completed a suicide questionnaire, she did not meet the state requirements to be put on suicide watch. A questionnaire, he continues, in which Burks also let it be known that she had tried to end her life before.

Green says Burks was in jail pending adjudication of a possession of a controlled substance charge, and is currently awaiting the results from a mental health mental retardation evaluation.

We’re following this story and will have more details for you just as they become available, right here on Navasota News.
