Volunteer drivers are being recruited to get people without transportation to medical appointments.
“We are avoiding 9-1-1 calls, ambulance services, emergency rooms. Focus on typical health care that can be done in a doctor’s office. Let’s save those other things for the true emergencies…and let’s help people get access to regular doctor appointments, even if they do not have transportation,” said United Way of the Brazos Valley president Alison Prince
Their passengers are initially coming from HealthPoint, Health For All, and BV-CASA.
“This is a pilot, so we know we will have issues, bumps in the road. And that is what it is for, we are working out the kinks to get it ready to roll out. So, we are not travvling to the surrounding areas, just Bryan/College Station. But, our plan is to get there, eventually,” said Prince.
The application process is online at uwbv.org.
