Unlicensed 18-wheeler driver from Navasota sentenced to 13 years for fatal hit-and-run near Plantersville

December 15, 2022 by Willy1550

A Navasota man has been given over a decade in prison for hitting and killing someone with an 18-wheeler while unlicensed.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says they sentenced 36 year old Matthew Brian Davis of Navasota on December 8th.

Officials say November 5th of 2021, Davis was pulling heavy equipment down Highway 105 between Dobbin and Planterville. As he attempted turning across the highway at Mt. Mariah Road, he turned in front of a pickup, which struck his trailer.

67 year old Gary Lee Frank of Montgomery was ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced deceased at the scene. Davis, meanwhile, did not render aid and fled.

Officials used surveillance video, and public tips, to lead them to Davis and his 1999 Volvo 18-wheeler. He had attempted covering over the damage with a wooden board and spray paint.

Davis pleaded guilty to a felony charge of Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death, and asked the jury for probation. Prosecutors, however, noted Davis’ past history of being ticketed for having no license, illegally driving commercial vehicles, and domestic violence.

He was given a 13 year sentence.
