USDA Is Looking Out For Producers

June 19, 2015 by Willy1550

Grimes County cattle producers have another ally in their search for flood relief. The U S Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency has a program just for this situation.

FSA State Executive Director Judith Canales tells Navasota News, local producers can receive aid by signing onto the Livestock Indemnity Program and you should compile a complete list of livestock damages directly caused by the floods and rains before meeting with an agency representative.

And with President Obama’s recent declaration of Grimes County as a natural disaster area, Canales says you can apply for low interest loans from the FSA to help rebuild your business if it was also damaged by the floods.

But Canales adds, these are only a few examples of the federal relief programs you could be assisted by if you qualify for. She says the FSA is here to help affected producers and wants to. But, she stresses, you can make this process easier if you compile a list of damages and document what happened before getting in contact with them.

For more about assistance programs or to set up an appointment with a local Farm Service Agency representative, call 979-846-48-14 ext 2.
